This project brought together Modern Welding Company as the tank manufacturer, an industry-leading petroleum equipment construction company as the installer, and a global agribusiness organization as the end user for a new bulk fuel terminal. The agribusiness operator required high-capacity underground storage tanks engineered for long-term durability, corrosion resistance, and structural reliability in a demanding operational environment.
Modern Welding Company fabricated seven stainless steel underground storage tanks, including two 35,000-gallon tanks measuring 11 feet in diameter by 49 feet-6 inches in length, and five 50,000-gallon tanks measuring 12 feet in diameter by 59 feet-3 inches in length. Each tank was manufactured from 304 stainless steel and equipped with 36-inch manways with extensions to accommodate the underground installation and provide long-term access for inspection and maintenance. All tanks were constructed as ACT-100, Type I double-wall tanks and listed to UL-58 and UL-1746 Part II, meeting stringent requirements for underground fuel storage applications.
Installation was performed by the petroleum equipment construction contractor and included placement of the tanks within a cast-in-place concrete vault, a unique design approach that added structural protection and enhanced system longevity. This configuration provides added strength, quality, and environmental protection while supporting reliable bulk fuel storage for a large-scale agribusiness facility. The completed project reflects Modern Welding Company’s expertise in stainless steel fabrication and its ability to support complex underground storage systems through coordination with experienced installation partners.
